Students revive community fun run

STUDENTS at Farnborough Sixth Form College are resurrecting a community fun run after a 10-year absence.
The students decided to re-establish The Farnborough 6 Fun Run to promote health and fitness and raise money for charity.
Around 400 runners of all ages are expected to take to the streets of Farnborough on Sunday March 30 for the six-mile race.
A one-mile race will also take place within the college grounds.
Half of the proceeds of the event will go towards officially nominated charities, including Ghana Link (a college fund to develop links with its new partner school in Ghana) and Wheel Power (British Wheelchair Sport).
The remaining cash will fund next year’s fun run.
Chairperson of the organising group is Jemma Siemak, 18, of Church Crookham.
She said: “It is about time that Farnborough once again had a community event like this, and we are proud to provide an opportunity for the community to show its spirit.”
The Farnborough 6 Fun Run will honour the route used in the 80s and 90s but the fact that it is being organised by students is unique.
Head of PE at Farnborough Sixth Form College, James Simms, said: “This is a genuine educational experience and the PE department is proud to be working with the students to stage this major community event.”
Entry fees are £8 for The Farnborough 6 and £2 for the one-mile fun run.
Details and application forms are available at www.farnboroughsfc.ac.uk
Residents are being invited to join in to get fit while raising cash for worthwhile causes
