M3 work to start

WORK is now due to start on noise barriers on the M3 near Frimley.
This will no doubt be music to the ears of residents living nearby.
The noise reducing barriers are being installed on both sides of the M3, from the A325 Portsmouth Road roundabout, to the B3015 Maultway between Junctions 3 and 4 near Frimley.
The Highways Agency said work would start at the end of March, and that it expected this to be completed by the end of August.
Vegetation clearance started on site in late February and the installation work will begin shortly.
The hard shoulder will be closed throughout the work, and three narrow lanes will be maintained in both directions, with a 50mph speed limit.
This work will complete the Highway Agency’s installation of barriers between the B3015 Maultway and junction 4 on the M3.
The project has been carried out in three phases: from Junction 4 to Tekels Park; from Tekels Park to the A325 Portsmouth Road roundabout; and from the A325 Portsmouth Road roundabout to the existing barriers just south of the B3015 Maultway.
Highways Agency project sponsor, Surinder Bhangu, said: “The Highways Agency is committed to investing in improved services and playing its part in protecting the environment.
“These barriers will help reduce the level of traffic noise for people living near the M3.
“We have planned the work carefully to limit delays, but we advise all drivers to allow a little extra time for their journeys, especially during peak travel periods.”
Real-time traffic information for England’s motorways and major A roads is now available from the Highways Agency’s new traffic radio service.
The service is available on DAB digital radio and the Internet at www.trafficradio.org.uk
