A NEW Safer Neighbourhoods Centre is open for business on the Pyestock housing estate in Farnborough.
The centre will provide a base for residents to be able to meet with Rushmoor Borough Council, the police, Sentinel Housing Association and other organisations.
Its main users will be the area’s beat officers, PC Kath Burton and PCSO Lisa Attwood, the Council’s Community Patrol team and Sentinel’s new neighbourhood co-ordinator, Sarah Morrisen.
Regular opening hours are due to be set up in the next few weeks.
The centre, at the back of the shops in Whetstone Road, will also be used as a base for initiatives, such as Crime Reduction and Environment Weeks (CREW), community roadshows and councillor surgeries. Other agencies, such as Hampshire Youth Service and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, will also use the site.
The base has been provided by the council, Sentinel and the police.
Coun Peter Moyle, leader of Rushmoor Council, said: “I’m delighted that the centre is now open. I believe it will provide a much-needed facility for residents to be able to meet with local agencies and to raise issues that affect their lives.
“We very much believe in listening to our communities and by working with local people to
tackle local issues, we hope we
can improve the lives of residents living on and around the Pyestock estate.”
Sarah Morrisen, Sentinel’s neighbourhood co-ordinator, said: “This new facility will give the local community a focal point.
“They will be able to access a variety of services through this facility and it will provide an excellent place where the local community can meet to discuss any concerns they may have to ensure Pyestock continues to remain a safe and desirable place to live.
