Patient forums replaced

PATIENT forums are to be replaced by Local Involvement Networks (LINks) from April.
The aim of this latest government initiative is to allow people to have more say about health and social care services via an independent network.
A ‘LINk’ will be a network of people, organisations and groups in the local authority area who want to improve care services.
It will feed back to those responsible for commissioning health and social care services the views of the community.
The Department of Health has given county councils the funds to find a host organisation to set up the LINks and keep them going. Hampshire’s host will be up and running by September 2008.
Leader of Hampshire County Council Ken Thornber, said: “The LINk will have a very real opportunity to shape the future of health and social care that will see more personalised services and ultimately put the service user in control of the care they receive.”
