A day for the Irish WHAT A BUNCH! Above, the Princess Royal shares a joke after giving out the huge shamrock posies IRISH Guards in Aldershot got a royal treat on St Patrick’s Day when Princess Anne handed out sprigs of shamrock. The 1st Battalion Irish Guards, based at Mons Barracks, are given Ireland’s national emblem wherever they are serving in the world. The last time the Irish Guards received it from the Princess Royal was prior to their deployment to Iraq. They returned from Iraq in December, following a six-month tour of duty where they helped to train the Iraqi Army. Families and friends were invited to attend Monday’s parade, which was accompanied by the Pipes and Drums of the Irish Guards
