A big bonus

A CELEBRATION tea party saw funds donated to a long-awaited temple building project on Sunday.
The Shiva Mandir Project, set up in 2007, aims to build a temple in Rushmoor to serve the Nepalese and Indian community.
The project has just been awarded charitable status, hence Sunday’s celebration at the White swan in Aldershot.
A cheque for £1,715 was handed over by the South East Nepalese Women’s Group, who have been fundraising with a series of events.
Treasurer Prakash Raut said: “The project will not only provide a meeting place for social, educational and cultural activities, but also a place for spiritual awareness.
“It will also be a place to give warm welcome to newcomers to this area, which is often appreciated.”
The next step apart from raising the necessary funds, is to find a suitable site or premises in the borough.
Rushmoor Council has been approached in the search for a site, which the founders hope will be “a centre of excellence in structure and eco-friendliness”.
